A Brew Called Kashmiri Kehwa

Namrata Wakhloo

Kehwa — A comfort and a health drink! A favourite of all Kashmiris. The brew is especially had during winter to keep oneself warm. It also soothes a sore throat or a common cold.

My recipe: Take a cup of water in a pan and put it on the stove. Add two teaspoons of sugar, two crushed green cardamoms and a pinch of cinnamon powder. You may add a few strands of saffron though I do not. Once it starts boiling, add 1/2 tsp of crushed Kehwa leaves. Let it boil for 30–60 seconds, and after a couple of boils, strain the Kehwa into a pretty cup & garnish with crushed almonds!

It’s served hot!

Winter is just around the corner. So, when you feel the chill or when it’s snowing outside, make a cuppa to sip by the fireside!
